Homeowners' pick for heating and cooling across Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic

Duct Replacement

We replace failed duct systems in homes across Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, West Virginia and Washington DC. Duct replacement is the right job when the runs themselves are past repair: crushed flex in a vented crawlspace, insulation soaked and hanging, joints separated so far that supply air never reaches the far bedrooms. If rooms stay hot no matter how long the AC runs, or the system short cycles and the house feels damp, call us and we will get under the house and look before we quote anything.

What a duct replacement actually involves

We pull the old runs out rather than patch around them. That means disconnecting supply and return trunks, removing collapsed flex and any duct board that has gone soft, then rebuilding the layout with correctly sized runs, sealed connections and insulation rated for a vented crawlspace or an unconditioned attic. Register boots get sealed to the subfloor so humid crawlspace air stops leaking into your rooms. Most homes take a day or two, and we work around your schedule so the house is not open longer than it needs to be.

What we check and what goes back in

Before anything comes out we measure static pressure, check the return size against what the blower needs, and look at how many elbows and long runs the old installer used. Undersized returns are the most common thing we find in a 1950s ranch. Replacement work includes properly supported flex or hard pipe, sealed plenums and boots, mastic at the joints, and dampers where a branch needs balancing. We also confirm the equipment matches the new duct design so airflow and BTU delivery line up.

How we decide replacement beats repair

Repair wins when the damage is local. One torn run, a loose boot, a section of failed tape and we fix that and move on. Replacement makes sense when leakage is spread through the whole system, when insulation has been wet long enough to mold or fall off, when rodents have opened multiple runs, or when the original layout starves half the house no matter how well we seal it. We will show you photos of what we found under there and explain both options plainly.

Duct Replacement — quick answers

Will new ductwork fix a room that never gets cool?

Often yes, if the cause is a crushed run, a disconnected boot or a starved return. We measure airflow at that register first, because sometimes the problem is equipment capacity or a blocked return instead.

Does duct replacement help with summer humidity?

It can. Leaky returns in a vented crawlspace pull damp air into the system, so the AC fights moisture it should never see. Sealing and replacing those runs keeps conditioned air inside the house.

Can you replace ducts without tearing up floors or walls?

In most homes with a crawlspace or accessible attic, yes. Work happens from below or above and registers stay in place. If a run is buried in a finished wall we will talk through options before cutting anything.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the form and describe what changed. Warm air, short cycling, a smell, water near the indoor unit. Details like that help us load the right parts before we leave.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose the whole system

We check the thermostat, the indoor unit, the outdoor unit and the ductwork, including runs in crawlspaces where damp air and loose joints quietly cause weak airflow and long run times.

  3. Step 3

    You approve the fix

We explain what failed, what it takes to repair it, and what we would watch next season. Nothing gets replaced without your yes, and we clean up before we leave.

Why homeowners call us

  • Humidity is our home groundMuggy summers and damp shoulder seasons drive most of the calls we take. We look at moisture and airflow together, not the cooling number alone, because a clammy house often means a sizing or duct problem.
  • Crawlspace ducts get checkedOlder homes across the region run supply ducts through vented crawlspaces. Crushed flex, disconnected boots and soaked insulation show up constantly, and we get under the house to look instead of guessing from the register.
  • Heating and cooling bothSame crew for air conditioning repair in July and heating repair in January. We know how your furnace, heat pump and air handler share ducts and a blower, so one visit covers the whole system.
  • Plain talk on repair or replaceWhen a repair makes sense, we repair it. When a system is failing in ways that will keep costing you, we say so and explain why, then leave the decision with you and your timeline.
  • All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
