What the repair visit involves
We start at the thermostat to confirm what the system is being told to do, then move to the indoor unit and the outdoor section. We watch a full cycle where we can, because a heat pump that heats for ten minutes and then blows cool tells a different story than one that never warms at all. We check the reversing valve, defrost board, sensors and airflow, then measure refrigerant performance. You get a plain explanation of the fault and the repair options before we touch anything.
What we check and replace
Typical repairs include reversing valve solenoids, defrost thermostats and boards, contactors, capacitors, outdoor fan motors and low-voltage wiring damaged by moisture or rodents. In older homes with ducts in vented crawlspaces, we also look for crushed flex, disconnected boots and heavy leakage, since a heat pump moves cooler supply air than a furnace and small duct losses show up fast as cold rooms. If auxiliary heat strips or a gas backup are involved, we test the changeover so the two stop fighting each other.
How we decide repair is the right call
We weigh the age of the equipment, the cost of the failed part, and whether the compressor still performs under load. A defrost board or a contactor on a ten-year-old system is a straightforward repair. A failed compressor with a leaking coil on the same system is a different conversation, and we will say so. We also flag causes that will repeat, like a crawlspace return pulling damp air or a thermostat wired so backup heat never engages. You decide with the numbers in front of you.

Why does my heat pump blow cool air even when it is running?
Heat pump supply air is cooler than furnace air by nature, so it can feel cool at the vent. If rooms are not warming at all, suspect a reversing valve, defrost fault, or low refrigerant charge and call us.
Should I switch to emergency heat?
Yes, if the house is getting cold, use emergency or auxiliary heat to stay comfortable until we arrive. Expect higher runtime on the electric strips, so let us know so we can prioritise your visit.
Is steam or ice on the outdoor unit a problem?
Steam during a defrost cycle is normal. A thick coat of ice that never clears, or a unit frozen solid, points to a defrost control or sensor fault and needs a technician, not a hose.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill in the form and describe what changed. Warm air, short cycling, a smell, water near the indoor unit. Details like that help us load the right parts before we leave.
- Step 2
We diagnose the whole system
We check the thermostat, the indoor unit, the outdoor unit and the ductwork, including runs in crawlspaces where damp air and loose joints quietly cause weak airflow and long run times.
- Step 3
You approve the fix
We explain what failed, what it takes to repair it, and what we would watch next season. Nothing gets replaced without your yes, and we clean up before we leave.

Why homeowners call us
- Humidity is our home groundMuggy summers and damp shoulder seasons drive most of the calls we take. We look at moisture and airflow together, not the cooling number alone, because a clammy house often means a sizing or duct problem.
- Crawlspace ducts get checkedOlder homes across the region run supply ducts through vented crawlspaces. Crushed flex, disconnected boots and soaked insulation show up constantly, and we get under the house to look instead of guessing from the register.
- Heating and cooling bothSame crew for air conditioning repair in July and heating repair in January. We know how your furnace, heat pump and air handler share ducts and a blower, so one visit covers the whole system.
- Plain talk on repair or replaceWhen a repair makes sense, we repair it. When a system is failing in ways that will keep costing you, we say so and explain why, then leave the decision with you and your timeline.
- All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
- Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
