What the job involves
A whole-home humidifier mounts on the supply or return plenum of your furnace or air handler and connects to a water line, a drain in most cases, and a humidistat control. We cut and seal the opening, run the water feed, wire the control so the unit only runs when the system is heating, then set the target humidity and watch it through a full cycle. On older homes with tight mechanical closets or ducts in a crawlspace, placement takes some thought before anything gets cut.
What we check and install
Before we quote anything we check blower capacity, plenum space, static pressure, and whether your ductwork is sealed well enough to carry the moisture where you want it. Leaky crawlspace runs will dump humidity under the floor instead of into the bedrooms. We look at water access, drain options and the existing thermostat wiring. Bypass, fan-powered and steam units all fit different houses, so we match the unit to your square footage and your heating equipment rather than pushing one model.
How we decide it is the right call
Dry air in winter usually shows up as static shocks, splitting wood floors, gaps at door casings and a scratchy throat that clears when you leave the house. We measure indoor relative humidity on the visit and compare it to outdoor conditions. If your house is already damp in the shoulder seasons, more moisture is the wrong answer and we will say so. Sometimes the real problem is duct leakage, an oversized system short cycling, or a crawlspace pushing air upward. We fix the cause first.

Will a whole-home humidifier work with a heat pump?
Yes, though heat pumps deliver cooler supply air than a furnace, so a fan-powered or steam unit often makes more sense than a simple bypass. We check your air handler and duct layout before recommending a type.
How much maintenance does one need?
Plan on a yearly service. The water panel or pad gets replaced, the drain and solenoid get checked, and the humidistat setting gets adjusted for the season. Hard water shortens pad life, so some homes need it more often.
Should I leave it running in summer?
No. Shut the humidifier off and close the bypass damper in spring. Summers across the region are humid enough that your AC is already working to remove moisture, and running both fights itself.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill in the form and describe what changed. Warm air, short cycling, a smell, water near the indoor unit. Details like that help us load the right parts before we leave.
- Step 2
We diagnose the whole system
We check the thermostat, the indoor unit, the outdoor unit and the ductwork, including runs in crawlspaces where damp air and loose joints quietly cause weak airflow and long run times.
- Step 3
You approve the fix
We explain what failed, what it takes to repair it, and what we would watch next season. Nothing gets replaced without your yes, and we clean up before we leave.

Why homeowners call us
- Humidity is our home groundMuggy summers and damp shoulder seasons drive most of the calls we take. We look at moisture and airflow together, not the cooling number alone, because a clammy house often means a sizing or duct problem.
- Crawlspace ducts get checkedOlder homes across the region run supply ducts through vented crawlspaces. Crushed flex, disconnected boots and soaked insulation show up constantly, and we get under the house to look instead of guessing from the register.
- Heating and cooling bothSame crew for air conditioning repair in July and heating repair in January. We know how your furnace, heat pump and air handler share ducts and a blower, so one visit covers the whole system.
- Plain talk on repair or replaceWhen a repair makes sense, we repair it. When a system is failing in ways that will keep costing you, we say so and explain why, then leave the decision with you and your timeline.
- All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
- Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
