What a thermostat replacement involves

Then we cut power, remove the old unit, and check what wiring is available at the wall plate. We mount the new unit level, terminate the wiring, restore power, and run both heating and cooling to confirm each stage responds.

How we decide replacement is the right call
Replacement makes sense when the thermostat itself has failed, when the reading drifts far from an accurate reference thermometer, when contacts stick and the system runs long after setpoint, or when new equipment needs staging and controls the old unit cannot provide. It is not the right call when the real problem is a low-voltage short, a bad transformer, a tripped float switch on a crawlspace air handler, or a failing control board.
